Flag Day is More Than the American Flag

June 14th is a big day around here at Eagle Mountain Flag and Flagpole. As many probably know, the 14th is Flag Day which is a holiday that commemorates the first official American flag that was approved by the Continental Congress in 1777 and has flown as our national emblem in some form without interruption since.

Flag Day is a time when we have a chance to not only honor the flag of the United States of America, but also all that the flag symbolizes, including honor, sacrifice, duty, independence, and liberty.

Flag Day 2022

This day is specially designated by the Flag Code as a day for displaying the American flag as we celebrate our country, but celebrating our country is easy and you can do it any time of the year while supporting at home by flying your own American Flags. Here are some quick key elements to know when displaying your flag at home or anywhere else!

Not only is14th Flag Day, but it's also the birthday of one of America's most trusted organizations: the US Army. While celebrating our symbol of freedom, we also celebrate the creation of America's oldest military branch. HOOAH!

The Army

The very first members of the US Army signed this oath in 1775. Today, the Army continues to be the largest branch of the Armed Forces, consisting of proud men and women who continue to provide peace and security for us all. In honor of this special day in American history, here are some lesser-known facts about the US Army.

  • The US Army wasn’t only protection-oriented. They were also in charge of exploring and mapping America. Landmarks such as Pike's Peak and the Grand Canyon were first explored by the Army.
  • The Army is older than the Country. Technically, the Army existed a year before the US officially became its own country.
  • 31 out of the 46 Presidents have served in the Army. 17 presidents even actively fought in wars during their time in service.
  • The Air Force was part of the Army until 1946 when they finally broke off to become their own branch.

Happy birthday, US Army, and thank you for your continual service in fighting for our country’s freedom.

Eagle Mountain Flag and Flagpole

On a more personal level, this year the 14th marks the 4-year anniversary of our current owner's proprietorship of Eagle Mountain Flag and Flagpole!

Eagle Mountain opened their doors in 1995 and was family-owned  by Mike and Vickie Young. Fast forward to June 2018, close family friends, Dan and Lisa Pitcher purchased the company and have continued the expansion over the last 4 years.

Today, we are nestled away in the beautiful Hill Country in the little town of Wimberley, Texas, and proud to say that we happily supply products to not only our local friends and neighbors but also to all our national and international customers around the world!

Cheers to 4 years of ownership!
