History of the CAMBODIA 1975 Battle Streamer
In early April 1975, as Communist forces threatened the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the United States initiated Operation Eagle Pull. A small Navy task force, including USAF HH-53 helicopters and Marine Corps CH-53s, executed a swift and daring evacuation. A USAF HH-53 helicopter landed an Air Force combat control team near the U.S. Embassy, and Marine helicopters evacuated 276 people, including 82 U.S. citizens, to Navy ships off the coast. The operation, conducted under the looming threat of small arms fire, successfully concluded on April 13. Notably, Operation Eagle Pull served as a rehearsal for the subsequent and larger evacuation operation, Operation Frequent Wind.
