Choosing The Best Flagpole For You

If you’re not an expert in flagpoles, it can feel a little overwhelming when beginning your search for the best flagpole. There are plenty of things to keep in mind, from the different finishes available to the various types of mechanisms. Some first-time buyers are a little surprised at the variety of factors needed to be taken into account as you’re selecting the best flagpole for your specific use.
At Eagle Mountain Flag and Flagpole, we’re passionate about all things flag-related – including flagpoles! We have a wide selection of not only residential flagpoles, but also commercial, indoor, mounted, and even some mega flagpoles. It can be a little intimidating when searching for the right flagpole for your specific needs but we are the experts and we are here to help!
There are a number of different elements that make up in-ground flagpoles. To start, here are a few important factors to consider as you’re selecting the best in-ground flagpole for you.
Material
In-ground flagpoles are usually constructed of aluminum or fiberglass, with aluminum being the most common choice. Fiberglass can be a better fit for those near the coast, due to its higher wind durability. Aluminum poles are more substantial-looking metal poles and are frequently used for commercial applications. Additionally, there are steel pole options, but those are generally used for mega flagpoles.
Size
Another thing to consider when it comes to selecting your perfect flagpole is size or height. The shaft size might ne one of the most important things to note when picturing your ideal end product. Most residential flagpoles installed are between 15’ and 25’ in height, depending on location and surrounding objects. From there they go up in increments of 5’ or 10’.
Pro Tip: If you don’t know what size to get, a good rule of thumb is to match the height of a pole to the highest peak of a building that will be located next to it. This could go for either commercial or residential setups!
Raising and Lowering the Halyard
The flagpole mechanism consisting of the cleat and halyard will either be located on the outside of the pole (externally) or inside the pole (internally). There are different flagpoles for options. External mechanisms are fine in most scenarios and for most homeowners, however, if your flagpole will be located in a high trafficked area, an internal halyard with a locking door might be the best option.
Popular In-Ground Eagle Mountain Flagpoles
One of our top-selling flagpoles is the Titan Telescoping Flagpole. These are different from your traditional flagpoles in a couple of ways. Unlike your other flagpoles, hardware like cleats and halyards are not needed with telescoping flagpoles, resulting in lower maintenance and making lowering and raising flags a *breeze*.
Additionally, all telescoping flagpoles orders include a ball ornament, a U.S. Flag, and our pole setting compound allowing for quick and easy installation. This cost-effective pole option is kept in stock and you don’t have to pay for freight.
