History of the Grenada 1983 Battle Streamer
The Grenada 1983 operation, also known as Operation Urgent Fury, was a military intervention ordered by U.S. President Ronald Reagan in response to a coup that overthrew the government of Grenada. The operation began on October 25, 1983, with the primary goal of protecting American citizens, particularly medical students studying at St. George's University, and restoring order following the coup.
The intervention involved U.S. forces from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, along with soldiers from six Caribbean nations. The swift and coordinated military action led to the restoration of the Grenadian government and the end of the turmoil on the island. The mission demonstrated the United States’ readiness to protect its citizens and interests abroad and marked a significant chapter in U.S. military history.
