History of the LEBANON 1983-1987 Battle Streamer
In 1982, in response to the Lebanese Civil War and the presence of Syrian and Palestinian forces in the region, the U.S. deployed military forces to Lebanon as part of a multinational peacekeeping mission. The mission was intended to stabilize the region, support the Lebanese government, and assist in the withdrawal of foreign combatants.
The situation escalated in 1983 with terrorist attacks, including the bombing of the U.S. embassy and the tragic bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, which killed 241 American service members. Despite the risks, U.S. forces remained committed to their mission, continuing their peacekeeping efforts until 1987 when the last Marines withdrew, marking the end of this tumultuous chapter in Lebanon's history.
