History of LIBYA-ELDORADO CANYON 1986
In 1986, following the deadly bombing of a Berlin nightclub attributed to Libyan agents, the United States launched Operation Eldorado Canyon, a series of air strikes targeting military facilities in Libya. The mission was a direct response to Libyan-backed terrorism and aimed at punishing the Libyan government for its role in orchestrating violent acts against American citizens and allies. U.S. Air Force fighter jets, alongside Navy bombers, successfully executed precision strikes against key targets in Tripoli and Benghazi on April 15, 1986. Though the operation resulted in the loss of civilian lives, it demonstrated U.S. resolve in the fight against terrorism, sending a clear message to Libya's leadership.
