3 Meaningful Ways To Show Your Patriotism

3 Meaningful Ways To Show Your Patriotism

Posted by Hayley Adams on Jan 21st 2021

The definition of patriotism is the quality of being patriotic; devotion to and vigorous support for one's country.

So the question is, how do we actually show that? Does verbally saying we love America or physically flying our American flags make a person more patriotic than someone who keeps their patriotic sentiments to themselves, you know, ‘it’s what’s in the heart that counts’ type of thing? The best answer might be that maybe it’s a little mixture of both.

Don’t get us wrong, we would never discourage flying the American Flag or just loving our country from the comforts of your living room. That's the thing that makes being an American so great after all, you get to freely have your own beliefs. We just wanted to share a few ways that can help show your patriotism in a meaningful way that encompasses both actions and intentions.

Vote In Early Elections

Yes, our Presidential Election has just come and gone, but there is so much more we can do as American’s than just filling out a ballot every 4 years. In between the Presidential Elections, there are still mid-term and off-year elections. Although these get considerably less attention from the media, they are still just as important to understand and be a part of. Take the time to educate yourselves on the opponents and make it a point to use your American right to vote every chance you get.

Properly Fly Your Flag

As previously stated, we never want to discourage flying the American flag, but there are proper ways to do so. The appearance of your flag is so important. In many cases, if your flag is unfit to fly, this can actually appear as unpatriotic. Tattered or severely sun-bleached flags need to be properly retired and replaced. We happily offer a service where we respectfully retire flags if you do not have the means to do so yourself. You can bring it into our store front or mail it to us. Taking the steps to ensure you're properly and respectfully flying the American flag is the ultimate display of unity.

Pay Your Respects

A heartfelt, “thank you for your service” sentiment to any veteran or active military can go a long way. You can also pay your respects by visiting one of the many memorials or monuments to commemorate fallen soldiers. If you want to take it a step further, go out of your way to volunteer at your local assisted-living facility or VA hospital where you can help the veterans who are under care. Bring a deck of cards with you and you’ll be sure to make someone's day!

These are just but a few meaningful ways to show patriotism that go beyond simply declaring your love for America. No matter how you choose to do so, what matters the most is that you do so peacefully, respectfully, and safely.
