History of the THAILAND 1973 Battle Streamer
After the closure of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam in Saigon on March 29, 1973, USAF resources in Cambodia were relocated to bases in Thailand. The Seventh Air Force headquarters moved to Nakhon Phanom, merging with the Support Activities Group to maintain a limited military force in Thailand while providing assistance to Laos, Cambodia, and South Vietnam. The Thirteenth Air Force headquarters was established at Udorn RTAFB, and there was a significant training program for Cambodian personnel at Korat. Operations included F-4 missions from Udorn and Ubon, B-52 bombings from U-Tapao, and CH-53 helicopters from Nakhon Phanom. Despite these efforts, the Air Force struggled to halt the Communist forces in Cambodia. This historical account, provided without copyrighted content, outlines the USAF's post-1973 activities in the region.
