History of the CAMBODIA 1973 Battle Streamer

After the U.S. withdrawal from South Vietnam in 1973, the Air Force maintained support for the Cambodian government in its struggle against the Khmer Rouge. Despite Khmer Rouge control over much of the countryside, the Cambodian government retained Phnom Penh. The Air Force conducted airstrikes on the outskirts of Phnom Penh using various aircraft, including B-52s, F-111s, A-7s, and AC-130s. F-4s provided escort and close air support, while RF-4s conducted tactical reconnaissance. C-130s airlifted crucial supplies to Phnom Penh, breaking the siege imposed by the Communists. The intense air traffic prompted the deployment of a C-130 Airborne Command and Control Center to manage the airspace. Despite a congressional mandate to end bombing in Cambodia in August 1973, C-130s continued supply deliveries, navigating challenges such as surface-to-air missiles.
