History of the Northern Solomons 1943-1944 Battle Streamer

In October 1942, the Allied Air Forces (AAF) and naval aviation launched a relentless bombing campaign against Japanese positions in the northern Solomons. The turning point occurred on February 21, 1943, with U.S. forces landing on Banika, sparking a series of strategic advancements. Thirteenth Air Force bombers targeted Munda Air Base, exhibiting American resilience. A significant blow came on April 18, as P-38 pilots intercepted and shot down Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto's aircraft. The battle raged on until June 1943, with U.S. forces gaining the upper hand.
