Key Features:
In June 1950, North Korean forces initiated a conflict in the Republic of Korea. Far East Air Forces (FEAF), led by Lt. Gen. George E. Stratemeyer, played a crucial role in evacuating Americans, engaging in aerial battles, and conducting strategic missions during the early days of the Korean War. As the Communists advanced, U.S. ground forces were committed on June 30, 1950, under President Harry S. Truman. General Douglas MacArthur, appointed UN Commander, led the charge, establishing the United Nations Command on July 24. Despite challenges, UN forces, with air support from the FEAF, resilient defenses, and strategic planning, successfully halted the Communist offensive in July 1950, maintaining a defensive perimeter around the seaport of Pusan.
