History of the CCF SPRING OFFENSIVE 1951 Battle Streamer

The Battle Streamer recounts the Chinese Communist Forces' spring offensive in 1951 during the Korean War. Beginning on April 22, the offensive targeted Republic of Korea Army positions northeast of Seoul. U.S. Army, Marine forces, and a UK brigade countered the Communist drive, regaining momentum by May 1. The UN Command launched a counterattack on May 22. Simultaneously, the Far East Air Forces and U.S. Navy maintained air superiority, with notable actions such as the destruction of North Korean aircraft at Sinuiju airfield. General Stratemeyer's May 1951 heart attack led to leadership changes. Captain James Jabara made history as the first jet ace on May 20. UN ground forces, supported by air and artillery, limited enemy movements. Operation Strangle targeted highways, and in June, North Koreans proposed a cease-fire. Negotiations at Kaesong in July ensued as UN forces pushed Communist troops northward, aligning with the later-established armistice line by July 8.
