Despite efforts to disrupt supply routes, Haiphong harbor remained off-limits. Electronic countermeasures were used to mitigate North Vietnam's antiaircraft defenses. Aerial combat initially favored the U.S., but by early 1968, MiG attacks intensified. The conflict extended to the DMZ, with battles near Quang Tri and Con Thien. In November 1967, U.S. forces faced Viet Cong resistance near Dak To, and in Laos, air support targeted the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The siege of Khe Sanh marked a major offensive in January 1968.
